Employment Guide's Older (Experienced) Worker Fall Job Fair Recap: The Day After!

So it's the day after. The day after what? Well it could be the day after for many things. Maybe you got some great leads from some great companies yesterday. Possibly you took those leads and are establishing relationships with some of the recruiters. It could be your first venture into finding work and the experience you gained in your conversations with employers and fellow job seekers was beneficial to you. Whatever the reason, outcome, is the day after!

So what happened on the day? Well it started early and it started wet! I had the great pleasure of leading the members of the AARP in a pre-job fair information session. It was great to see so many people wanting to get involved in making a great change in their lives. They had some great questions and seemed positive that an opportunity was out there for them yesterday. I even tried to throw some geeky and techie information their way about the Blog, Twitter and online portfolios and got great feedback in one-on-one sessions after my talk.

After leaving the pre-game show, I headed over to the registration table. It wasn't even game time and the place was packed. Job seekers young and old got wind of the job fair and the race was off for the new career. We gave out the job seeker bags filled with goodies including the latest issue of the Orlando Employment Guide, blog and Twitter information, flyers on our online portfolios, Bowling tickets and more. Everyone that registered had the opportunity win $10,000 courtesy of the Employment Guide via a scratch off ticket. Everyone had Lotto (Employment Guide) fever. As the day progressed we continued to have great response from the older and experienced workers, the job seekers in Central Florida and the students that roamed the East Campus of Valencia Community College. Recruiters had a blast as well and collected applications, resumes and conducted on the spot interviews with prospected employees.

Good to say that the rain clouds disappeared right before the first pitch and stayed nice and sunny all day!

So today is the day after. Where do you stand?

I am opening this post up for comments on the event from both job seekers and employers and would love feedback on how your day went and how we can make the next event even better! So please, Orlando, join the conversation and make a difference in our community!

Till next time, have a great weekend!
