Sign Up To Job Alerts With Your Cell Phone

Text your way into a new jobphoto by Stephan Geyer

One thing I have been looking at as someone that spends many hours everyday looking at marketing and technology, is the growth of the mobile industry. There are now 4 web ready phones to every 1 computer on the planet.

This week I got word that YOU can now signup to receive job alerts from the EmploymentGuide.com via your mobile phone.

It's a pretty simple process:
  • Start by texting "JobAlert" to 44733 (non case sensitive)
  • You will receive a confirmation text with a link to the mobile signup page
  • You will enter your email address and your zip code (so we don't send you jobs in Alaska or something)
  • Now you can start adding industries that you would like alerts from. Choose as many that interest you and your career.
  • Scroll and click on the signup button and you are done!
Now jobs will come directly to your email as they become available on the EmploymentGuide.com.

Go ahead and check it out today.

As we move ahead with mobile technology here, I can see jobs coming directly via SMS in the near future. For those reading the print version of the Employment Guide, you should know that there are many companies now allowing you to text in your information to apply for positions.

Orlando Job Fairs in 2010

In 2009 the Orlando Employment Guide held 4 job fairs that were responsible for putting close to 1,000 people back to work. In addition to the jobs, we were able to begin providing resources, access to information and give job seekers new ideas and new motivation to continue their job search and find the opportunity that will change their life.

Going into 2010, we are looking to improve our job fairs, based on feed back that we have gathered from people just like you. To get ready for our first job fair on January 20th, here is a quick video that goes into detail on what to expect at an Orlando Job Fair in 2010.

Creating a Powerful Resume Objective Statement

Today on the Orlando JobSpot we are going to be looking at creating a Rock Star Objective Statement for your resume. Over the course of the year we ask for resume submissions to place on our job fair CD and we see our fair share of objective statements. Add that to all the advertisers and employers and that has taught us a lot about what recruiters are looking for.

Check out the video below to see how you can write a more effective, personable and actionable resume objective statement.

Creating a Resume Objective Statement

As you prepare your resume this week to send to employers, be sure to focus on getting the attention of the recruiter quickly with a strong objective statement or qualifications summary. Your goal is to get them to read on and pick up the phone to call you in for an interview.

How are you convincing them to pick up that phone?

Obama's Job Summit

Today, Thursday, December 3rd, President Barack Obama will hold a Job Summit at the White House where he will meet with some of the best and brightest CEOs, small business owners, and financial experts about ideas for continuing to grow the economy and put Americans back to work.

Tonight on Larry King Live, he will be bringing in some great minds to talk about the jobs summit including Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Tony Robbins and Magic Johnson. As usual, you can submit questions for this show via iReport.

As we near the end of the calendar year, jobs are a major focus at holiday dinners as many are hoping to turn things around and start a fresh new year. Personally I am excited to hear what the President says, as well as from these other employers and financial experts to get an idea of what the New Year will bring.

What are you hoping to hear from this jobs summit?

Regardless of the outcome, you can start making a difference in your career today. Begin branding yourself and looking to multiple outlets for opportunities. Holiday networking events are great places to meet like-minded professionals and talk about their company going into the New Year.

Join conversations online and begin following the blogs, Twitter accounts and social networking profiles of companies you have an interest in.

Get proactive and use this as momentum going into the job search!
